This website is the official "5 and 10" campain to change the Providence Council from 15 wards to 5 at large City Council members and 10 members elected by wards. The Mission of the 5 & 10 Coalition Reform the way Providence is governed. The city Council will change to include 10 council members, each reprensenting one ward - and five at-large coucil members, each representing the entire City. Let the people decide! By way of history, the city council is vested with the legislative powers of the City of Providence. Two major responsibilities of the council are enacting ordinances necessary to ensure the welfare and good order of the city and adopting the city's annual budget. The members of the City Council are elected by residents of the fifteen wards of Providence. Council members represent the concerns, needs, and issues of their constituents, and work to improve the city's neighborhoods. Turn Providence City Council to a 5 "at large" with 10 wards.
